Award-winning, Marlborough chef Sam Webb, has launched a new venture at Wairau River Wines. Almost a year on from the temporary closure of the Rose family’s iconic Wairau River Cellar Door and Restaurant on Rapaura Road, Sam has created ‘Number 11 at Wairau River’, to showcase his tasty talents. www.wairauriverwines.com/
Sam and his team deliver flavours and textures the 'Wairau way' and since opening on November 7, the lunchtime venue has been packed.
The dishes we enjoyed were deliciously different. Appetising: Agria potato gnocchi, peas, asparagus, lemon, goat curd; and Lamb Henry — a special cut from the lamb shoulder — (I forgot to ask who Henry is/was), zhoug, yoghurt, za’atar, curry leaves. My photo of this melt-in-the-mouth lamb does not do it full justice. (I’ll have to enjoy return lunch for another pic.)
“It’s thrilling to be working alongside a brand I have respected for decades and for my team to be pouring these exceptional Wairau wines,” says Sam.
If you don't catch up with Sam for lunch at ‘Number 11 at Wairau River’ at lunchtime, he’ll be at his Hat- awarded, Franks Oyster Bar and Eatery in Scott Street from 4pm until late.
